The moving bears
Several weeks ago, we bought Elena her first Berenstain Bears book. It's about moving, of course. There has been much discussion about the 'moving bears' coming today. And come they did. It's amazing how much stuff three people who live in a furnished apartment have to move back. 53 boxes, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
Last night Jake and I finished the sorting. Three piles, on the plane (ug - this is a heavy pile), for the 'moving bears', and stays in the apartment. Elena woke up and was quickly shuttled to Ukkie for breakfast (a rare event) and we waited. Our two movers showed up and in three hours, all of our treasured belongings were boxed up, written up, and loaded up in the truck. Sure, theortically we could have done this ourselves....and gone INSANE. Plus, all of our belongings must clear customs (through the department of homeland security, so you can imagine the paper work). We avoid dealing with all of this for what seems like quite a reasonable fee when you consider biking all the moving boxes to your house, filling them up, biking them to the shipping, and then filling out all the customs paper work and clearing your own shipment through customs yourself. Take our money, please!
Elena was really concerned about all of her toys and things, of course. Tamara, the giant stuffed dog from Tony and her trike topped the list. Tamara got her own box, but the trike just got wrapped, oh well, that is what insurance is for. We only lost one box in the move out of Santa Cruz. It was labeled 'master bedroom' and was supposed to go to Maine for storage. We have no idea what was in it. This time we took our own careful notes of what went in each box (we are getting this whole thing down). This boxing day was considerably less stressful than the one from Santa Cruz - perhaps because we remain in a furnished apartment. Perhaps because I'm not trying to get a 1 year old to take a nap in a motel while my dad cleans out our fridge. The best thing is, that we don't even have to clean this apartment before we leave!
Here are a few pictures.
Jake and Elena take all the 'goodies' off my bike. They are hard to find in the US, so we will take all the stuff, and leave our one gear bikes behind.

The cubbies all sorted and ready to be packed

Into the boxes, ready for the truck

Tamara gets her own box. Flying first class, except they shoved a few other toys in for 'extra packing'

The mummy trike - cross your fingers! Too big for a box (we thought they could have made one, but that is what insurance is for!)
