Kolar Klan!
Minus three...but we'll happily take the two that visited.
These past few days we were blessed with a visit from Lucie and Hannah Kolar. My family has known the Kolar's for years, back from the 'old' Catholic Center days. I remember when Hannah was born (because I loved her name so much), I remember when Leah put toothpaste on Dad's glasses when he fell asleep during the Easter party, and I remember throwing a 'Backward's Birthday Surprise Party' for Renee. The whole Kolar Klan up and moved to France 4 years ago. We have not been able to arrange a time to visit them, but Lucie and Hannah really wanted to ride bikes in Holland before they leave (this summer, like us), so they took advantage of a school break (evidently one of many for Hannah) and came for a visit.
Elena fell in love with Hannah immediately. Jake had the distinct impression that since Hannah is a 'super big kid' (at 15 - gasp! how is that possible?) that Elena believed that any day now she would be tall and willowy and poised just like Hannah...thankfully we have another 12 years, though those are looking like pretty quick years now.
Lucie and Hannah arrived on Monday. We went on a bike ride through the town, past the Red Light District (full tour) and out to some windmills for lots of pictures (on Hannah's camera). They took us out for dinner and we opted for Dutch dining of pancakes along the canal (Elena sat by Hannah). After some sort of kitchen 'problem' (never defined) Jake's second pancake arrived and we were able to dash off to warm up in time for icecream, of course! Lucie got story time that night.
They headed off to Leiden and Kuekenhof on Tuesday. We made Belgian chicken stew and sampled all sorts of beers from Bert's Beir Hause. Hannah savored her beverage - Dr. Pepper! Good Texas girl!
She was happy to find out that I have a stash of a few cans that you can buy at one AH. Elena played her new matching game with Hannah and Lucie--it managed to eclipse the new sparkle pens the brought the day before!
Lucie and Hannah headed to Amsterdam today, Elena wasn't too upset saying good bye, as Nana arrives in two days (thankfully or it would have been diffucult to pry her from Lucie and Hannah this morning!) We were so happy to see them! Of course we missed Dave (holding down the French Fort), Renee (off learning to be quadlingual), and Leah (back with her 'Horns up' in Austin), but we were so lucky to have Hannah and Lucie!
