We wish you a Merry Christmas
Twas the day before Christmas, and time for the Kraal family tradition of a movie on Christmas Eve. This year's selection, Happy Feet, was chosen by Elena and her desire to see 'the dancing penguins.' So we all bundled up in the drizzle and headed off to Elena's first movie.

It was a little loud, but there were in fact dancing penguins. Elena and Poppa had a fortuitious 'break' for popcorn just as the harper seal tried to make Mubble into a tapas. We returned home and completed the tradition with tamales and chips and queso for lunch.

The nap finished just in time to get dressed for church. Hair brushing was only allowed following the photo session, see Toddler Code Section #172983.

We made it to church all in our Christmas attire...which was bit of a miracle as Elena was extremely sceptical of the 'shiny red shoes' carefully selected by Aunt Shell. However, her love of tights won out. Following church, where there was a baby Jesus who needed help from his momma and lots of questions about 'what dat kid doing now?' We dashed home to get our party contribution to the annual Christmas Eve party. We bought a brisket, Seth and Michele brought the tequila. Following a time honored tradition, Jane and Dad lead the group in 'shots for the baby Jesus.'

Mom always drives home. Elena came out of her shell and ended up having a great time, especially holding Uncle Seth's hand while looking for the Gravois twin babies. Only a small meltdown insued as we had to return home.
It was rumored that 'Sinterklaus' was coming to fill the stockings with 'chocolate' so we had to get all ready for bed, since we all know that he only comes while you sleep. Elena eventually did sleep. In fact, she slept so much that when Uncle Seth and Aunt Shell arrived right on time at 8am, there was still time for a nap while everyone waited for Elena to wake up.

In fact, she had been up quite a bit and finally fell back asleep cuddled in bed between her parents (what better Christmas morning is there than a snuggly toddler in red fleecy footies cuddle up to you?). When she finally woke up at 8:30, she was quite excited to go check things out. However, first she had to put back on her 'Christmas clothes to get organized for Sinterklaus.' Now, it should be noted that Gram and Aunt Shell picked out a pair of adorable black knit pants with candy canes, matching red shirt, white sweater, (and the aforementioned shiny red shoes). However, Elena would have none of that...back on with her 'shirt with buttons and I want my poncho!' So, if it looks like she slept in her Christmas Eve outfit, we assure you she did not. She was adorable in her red footies from LL Bean with a little reindeer. I think she must have know that white would be a classic base for accessorizing with her upcoming Christmas presents.

Out to the stockings, where in fact Sinterklaus HAD brought a handful of hershey kisses (along with some other stuff, whatever that was). Not only did Sinterklaus bring chocolate, but there was some sort of blip in the parental universe and her parents allowed her to eat the chocolate first thing in the morning, this blip lasted through out the entire day as Elena munched her kisses until the last one was gone.

The blip mysteriously ended when the last kiss when 'down Elena's belly' as there were no more kisses to be found and Elena could not sweet talk another delievery of chocolate out of anyone (but Uncle Seth might be been convinced if he knew where the rest of the package was).
Following breakfast, we opened presents. It was a great Christmas, as Jake pointed out, 'everyone got some nice things and there wasn't a lot of 'stuff'!' Elena's biggest hit was her hair cutting kit. Opa has recieved extensive beauty treatments and hair cuts since about 10am on Christmas morning.

Pauses where available for grocery shopping and feeding the babies. In addition, Elena loved her new necklaces and orobelles (earrings) along with her auqadoodle (who knew such a thing existed? Leave to to Uncle Seth and Aunt Shell).
During a momentary lapse in the chocolate kiss maintained blood sugar, Elena squeaked in a nap. Then we had Christmas dinner, which turned out to be mostly Seth's famous onion soup. Plus a little Baron of Beef and Bush de Noel on the side.

Then it was time to send the sleepy, chocolate covered monkey to bed.
