On the road again...

"So Elena, what would you like for Christmas?"

"Well Daddy, I'd really like to get elite frequent flyer status..."

And so it began.

We loaded up our gear for 15,000 miles of fun and hit the road again. 26 hours back to our first stop in California.

We met our support crew for phase one in the San Francisco airport and headed out the next morning for the Russian River.

We had a whirlwind weekend with Aunt Joanna and Big Opa, taking some of the edge off the jet lag and seeing some of the rugged, beautiful coastline. Yes Joanna, that is kelp. No, they don't have it in Utah.

Then they were off...

and Elena had a week in the city with Nana while Mom and Dad caught up with their colleagues at the fall AGU meeting.

We also found time to see super Nanny Mimosa and ET. Apparently our plan of conditioning Elena to tall people by living in the Netherlands is working well as she warmed up to ET in unprecedented fashion.

Then it was time to repack the bags and hit the airways again for stop three in Texas. Gram and Little Opa's Christmas extravaganza. Kicked off with Little Opa's famous "sizzle" breakfast of french toast and bacon. Prepared with more than a little assistance from Princess of the Universe, Kitchen helper Extraordinaire and soon-to-be silver elite freqent flyer Elena.

It turns out it's a good thing she is here, Little Opa had a lot of yard work that he needed done, and a little supervision goes a long way...

Of course all that supervising works up and apetite so breakfast the next morning was gingerbread pancakes with you-know-who assisting. Food volume consumption for a holiday season looks to be record breaking.

Lest you think we only do food and day labor, we also got Elena to Gram's library for a visit. She has almost this many books at home, but it was still nice to see where Gram works.

And thank goodness for the distractions. We are creeping closer to the "big" day and anticipation of Sinter Klaas' arrival is growing. We're sticking with one name for the jolly old elf, but the concept of filling stockings has been grasped quickly and most of the anticipation is for "presents" which "we will eat." When asked today "What if the present is a sock?" The answer was "Nayyyyy! PRESENTS. Socks aren't presents" -- apparently the only officially sanctioned present is chocolate, which is being mightily anticipated.

Best wishes for chocolate filled stockings for you all.
