Back in the Dutch life again
After a reasonably easy flight back to Schipol, we are settled in back in Utrecht. We arrived home to quickly dash off to the AH for the makings for dinner. Saturday we hit the market to reload on Borenkaas and stock up on Olliebollen (fried dough balls, a New Years speciality). It seems surreal that last year we were unable to find our way around or food.
Elena is adjusting alright. The loss of grandparents is somewhat tempered by the upcoming return to Ukkie (no doubt to brag to her friends about her travels). The jet lag is vicious right now. Jake and I commented that perhaps this is the first time we have returned well rested, such that rather than collapsing in exhaustion whenever possible, we actually have an old sleep cycle that is unhappy about the 8 hour difference. We've been setting our alarm for 8:30, like good little travelers, but when it is still dark outside it is a horrible thing to think of getting out of bed. Elena has been having quite a time, last night she could not fall asleep. There was no mercy at 8:30, as we couldn't let her keep on this cycle. A few tantrums later (ok, more than a few) she now seems entertained by making pancakes and watching Jake vacume out the oven (don't ask).

The kitchen portion of our haul back from the states - heavy on Mexican food stuffs and ziplock bags.

Elena and I indulge in a brief post tantrum, pre dinner nap on our first day home.
