An Afternoon with Elena
Today, Elena woke up from her nap in a banner mood. Thankfully she wanted to play inside, since it was pouring rain outside. She was so involved in her 'little world' I tried to snap a few pictures to show you what she is up to these days.
First of all, after 'hema schlapen' (having a sleep), Elena had to go and water the ducks. She keeps an assortment of old bottles around the house. They become different things, sometimes soap. But in this case, the were for the 'drinking ducks.' She carefully filled the little cap set before 'momma duck' and 'baby/kid duck.'
During her snack she announced, 'Baby duck out of water! Elena go fill it.' I replied that once she got up, snack was over. Since snack involved craisins she decided the duck could wait.
"Baby duck needs more water. Hafta wait."
"Baby duck talk with momma."
"What are they talking about?"
"Bloemen." (flowers)
The it turned out that the bottles were empty. Elena refills them at the beer fan, as we have taken to calling it. Since whenever she goes there she says,
"Bottle empty, hafta get more beer. Momma please turn fan on. MOMMA!!!!!!!!!!"
We aren't sure where she learned about beer, probably the other kids at Ukkie.
After the ducks were watered, it was time to do some coloring. When I asked what aunt joanna would like for her birthday (sorry to spoil the surprise!) she said, 'painting with MARKERS! Aunt Jojoanna like that a lot.' (she always doubles the jo in joanna). So she carefully made some notes to her Aunt.
Then it turned out that
"bunny peed in the bed!"
So it was time for a diaper change and to put his PJ's on. But first he sat on the potty, so did Elena, but we had to flush imaginary bunny pee this time. After lots of chattering, Bunny was hungry.
"Bunny hema eaten. Lena hold him on arm. Peter Rabbit hafta wait. Lekker bunny! Klar (finished)"
The laid bunny down and picked up Peter Rabbit and his blanket. (and yes, that is a shower foam container as the bottle).
"Now Peter Rabbit. Hema eata Peter Rabbit! ........Klar. Hema schlapen.' (have a sleep)

A language update...Today at Ukkie when I picked elena up, she was pointing out to Laura that there was one corner of a sandwhich left. Laura said to elena, all in dutch, to pick up the sandwhich and hand it to Jesse in his little high chair. Elena could follow all the directions in Dutch. (She's smarter than us...)
