Summer Garden

When we arrived, the pond was often frozen. Now it is filled with kikkeren (frogs), chirping all night long. Here is the most recent shot from the back patio. Now there are wedding parties 4 nights a week and sometimes Elena and I sneak out to have an ijs (popcycle) by the pond, watch the party, and wait for the kikkeren to jump.
The long days make everything grow so lush. The sun sets around 10:30 and rises before 4am. Thank goodness for dark drapes. It reminds both of us of Alaska. Both the sense of hurried growth and the attitude of the people. There are flowering baskets everywhere. On hot days, people seem to soak the heat up like lizards, preparing the the cold months ahead. Everyone seems to stay up a bit later. We find ourselves willing to head to the Farm to feed the animals after dinner or stroll down the the roomijs stand for a treat.
