Life is just happening
Well, this week it was sort of like we realized that 'we are just living here.' We sort have a routine down for shopping (every two days for milk, cheese, and bread). I finally got my office and key. Life just starts to happen...
Like, Elena was home sick two days from Ukkie because of her cold, which Jake and I now also have full force. We use the Gazelle bike decongestant program, which is bike to run an errand and use an entire package of tissues every time you stop. This is just about the worst cold either of us can remember having in a long time. Thank goodness for our stash of American medications! (and let's hope our backup supplies get through customs...) And thank goodness that our colds didn't really crank up until the the night after Jake and I had telephone interviews for an assistant professor position at Colorado College (don't get your hopes up, they went well, just the chances are slim and it will be a while before we hear anything, but we are happy for the experience and interest).
Today was our typical Saturday - we breezed through the market and found all the ingredients for a tasty and easy Spicy Thai chicken soup to help with our colds (it did, and there are leftovers). We found craisins for Elena (and the nice man gave her some dried candied strawberries while she waited - perhaps eclipsing her love of craisins) and got some very tasty dilled gouda from the cheese shop. We also biked to a pigeon shop - it wasn't all that Jake had hoped, but it did have grain (but not much else). The great part was that we found a park with ducks, geese, and CHICKENS! So we stopped and got some 'snacks' (egg role type things with a very tasty spicy sauce) and then fed the animals.
Tomorrow we brave IKEA. It will require snacks (thank goodness we found some craisins).
